Why the same argument keeps happening
9 July 2026 · 5 min read

Most couples do not have many arguments. They have one argument, in a rotating set of costumes.
Couples who come to therapy often describe a long list of disagreements: money, family, the washing up, whose career takes priority this year. Listened to closely, the list usually collapses into one recurring structure.
The content changes. The choreography does not. One person moves toward, the other moves away, and both experience the other person as the one causing it.
Naming the pattern is not the same as solving it, but it changes what the argument is about.
Writing is not a substitute for care. If any of this is live for you right now, a first consultation costs nothing. Book one, or see crisis support if you need someone now.
