On telling people you are in therapy

3 June 2026 · 3 min read

A plain notebook and pencil lie on an otherwise empty desk.

You do not owe anyone this information. But the question of who to tell comes up early.

There is no obligation here. Therapy is a private arrangement and disclosing it is entirely your decision, including the decision to tell nobody at all.

That said, most people find they want to tell someone, and the choice of who tends to matter more than the choice of whether.

It is reasonable to decide this in advance rather than in the moment.

Writing is not a substitute for care. If any of this is live for you right now, a first consultation costs nothing. Book one, or see crisis support if you need someone now.

Fifty minutes is a good place to start.

No card needed to book a first consultation.
